Hyundai comes from a Korean word that means modernity.
In the 60’s Ford produced their cars in Korea, in the Hyundai factory. Interestingly enough, they shared some of the technology involved in the production of passenger cars and light trucks.
In 1986 Hyundai entered the United States, a market that was missing low-cost alternatives for college students, or young families. While most brands focused on higher-end cars, Hyundai was selling over 160k Excels in the first year in the USA.
In the ’90s after the peak and decline of Hyundai, the company started hiring designers coming from Audi, and top-ranked executives from around the world. The brand started to take its focus away from pricing and selling and reassessed design and quality control making Hyundai a role model for Koreans and many brands around the world.
Hyundai has reinvented itself from being considered a price leader to becoming a value leader. The business model from 20 years ago hasn’t changed, “Create a competitive car for less money”. Now the Ioniq and the electric hybrid car have taken the lead as the most economical and efficient in its category. Hyundai is not quitting anytime soon!
The Assurance Program is a new trade-in value guarantee that applies to all new Hyundai cars that forecast the value of the car when trading in (24-48 months after purchase) for another Hyundai. The full determined value can be used towards the purchase of a new car.
Hyundai makes the shortlist for the cheapest cars to maintain throughout 10 years. To give you an idea, the cost of maintenance for the first 3 years totals $120, where the total for 10 years is $435. That is pretty sweet.
